Projects resulting in a closure or major impact
Day Use Area reconstruction
Day use area reconstruction is expected to wrap up this summer.
Little Prairie, McNeely’s and Knight’s Lake day use areas are open to the public. Coppermine is open but may require short-term closure this summer as minor finishing upgrades take place.
Lost Horse remains closed as work continues.
Crandell Mountain Campground
Stage one of Crandell Mountain Campground reconstruction was completed in 2021. This included completing underground utilities and infrastructure, the water tank and water treatment building, wildlife corridor reclamation and rough grading the Crandell Lake Trail parking lot and trailhead.
Plans for stage two are still being determined and will be shared in due course. No completion date has been set.
Red Rock Canyon Day Use Area
Rehabilitation work continues at Red Rock Canyon this fall. This will result in bridge and trail closures. Upper, middle and lower canyon bridges, as well as the Bauerman creek bridge, and trails adjacent to the canyon will be closed at times to accommodate construction.
To maintain public access to Snowshoe trail, crews will aim to keep at least one of the three canyon foot bridges (upper, middle or lower) open to the public. Snowshoe trail will be accessed via the Snowshoe horse trail detour, starting at the lower canyon. Snowshoe trail is closed to horse traffic for duration of bridge rehabilitation.
During the Bauerman Creek bridge closure, Blakiston Falls trail will be accessible via the Blakiston horse trail detour starting at lower Red Rock parking lot. This detour includes a creek crossing and may be unsuitable for those with mobility challenges, strollers, etc. See map below for location. Blakiston Falls trail is open to horse traffic during bridge rehabilitation.
