Area closure: Chetamon Wildfire Area

What:
Pursuant to subsection 36(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, the following area is closed to all traffic and travel by order of the Superintendent:
Where:
In Jasper National Park, where Snaring Road turns west after the Snaring Overflow Campground. The closure boundary follows the perimeter of the Chetamon Wildfire. The boundary follows the southern most ridge of Chetamon Mountain and across the snaring road to west of the Athabasca River. The west and east boundary extend 17 km north east until the ridge above Devona, north of the Snake Indian River. The east boundary of the closure is east of the Snaring and Celestine roads and roughly follows the Athabasca river. The west boundary of the closure extends 3 km in the Cobblestone Creek and Corral Creek drainages, 2.6 km into the Vine Creek drainage and 6.8 km into the Snake Indian Valley. This closure includes the Snaring and Celestine roads. The closure includes the trailhead for the North Boundary Trail (150) at the end of the Celestine Road. North Boundary Trail is accessible from the Rock Lake Trailhead, and hikers can travel south from Willow Creek to the closure boundary. Please refer to the closure map for a graphic description of the area.
Why:
To ensure public safety while fire damaged trees continue to fall during coming Fall and Winter seasons.
Penalty:
Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
