Banff National Park
Looking for a fun outdoor activity to do while in Banff? Geocaching is great way to discover special areas of the park at your own pace. Parks Canada offers beginner and intermediate level geocaching challenges.
Geocaching in any Canadian national park is different than geocaching in other areas. To prevent geocaches from becoming wildlife attractants, trade items are not permitted.
How to get started
1) Download an activity sheet below or pick up a copy at the Banff Visitor Centre
- Beginner Level Challenge activity sheet (10 Mb) (Active year-round)
- Intermediate Level Challenge activity sheet (144 Kb) (Active Jul. 1 to Sept. 30)
2) Using the GPS coordinates, find geocaches throughout the park with a GPS unit, iPhone or Blackberry (when using a smartphone, download a geocaching or GPS enabled app).
3) Once three Banff National Park geocaches have been found, bring your activity sheet with proof-of-find answers to the Banff Visitor Centre to claim your official Banff National Park Geocoin! A minimal $4.00 fee applies.

There are a number of geocaching opportunities in Banff that are not maintained by, but have been approved by Parks Canada.
Safety is your responsibility. There are always hazards involved with outdoor recreational activities. Be sure you have the most current information on trail conditions by checking the trail report or by visiting a Parks Canada Visitor Centre.
