J’entends battre le cœur du lichen
A new creative project by author, embroiderer, and cultural mediator Noémie Pomerleau-Cloutier, J’entends battre le cœur du lichen (I Hear the Heartbeat of Lichen) will take shape throughout the season.
Infused with poetry, this embroidery exhibition showcases lichen growing on the rocky shores of the Bas-Saint-Laurent, crafted using plastic waste collected along the region’s coastline. Come and discover the work of an inspiring artist and engage in conversation with her on the second floor of the caretaker’s house, after exploring the River Sentinels exhibition on the first floor.
Visitors are invited to deposit plastic waste found along the shoreline in designated containers on-site. These objects may be incorporated into the artist’s works.

For many years, I have taken part in shoreline cleanups or picked up waste on the beaches. [...] This is a concrete way for me, as an ecofeminist citizen, to actively contribute to the preservation of our waterways.
A word on the artist in residence
Noémie Pomerleau-Cloutier is originally from the Côte-Nord region and now lives in Rimouski. She is an author, embroiderer, cultural mediator, educator, and community worker. She has published two poetry collections with La Peuplade: Brasser le varech (2017) and La patience du lichen (2021), the latter of which won the CALQ Award for Emerging Work in Montréal in 2021. Her latest work, a poetry collection for young readers titled Tête boule disco, was published by Boréal in 2024. Empathy is at the heart of her artistic practice, which is deeply rooted in a profound respect for the land and for the stories within each of us—stories that shape our relationships with ourselves, others, and the places we inhabit.
