Info-Work: Repairs at Hamlet Bridge

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

June 26, 2017, Peterborough, ON – Parks Canada would like to advise that the Hamlet Bridge on the Severn River will be closed for repair intermittently July 10th, 2017 through July 21st, 2017 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The Hamlet Bridge, which is part of the Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site, is located at 1941 Peninsula Point Road, between the Townships of Severn and Gravenhurst. Motorists are asked to plan their routes accordingly.

Over the winter, detailed inspections were made to both the fixed and swing portions of the Hamlet Bridge on the Severn River. These inspections were the first stages in the design of a project which would see either a significant repair of the bridges, or their replacement. The upcoming temporary repairs have been recommended to maintain the current load limit as an interim measure, in advance of more extensive work.

A 3 tons load limit is currently in place for the bridge. A new height restriction of 2.0 meters will be added to this bridge and signage placed on Highway 11 and South Sparrow lake Road to better ensure the load limit is respected.
