Increased water flow at Lock 42 - Couchiching

Issued: March 26, 2026

Ends: April 30, 2026

PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO, March 26, 2026 – Parks Canada advises that due to higher-than-normal water levels on Lakes Simcoe and Couchiching, the discharge valves at Lock 42 – Couchiching, near Washago, will be opened as early as Monday, March 30, to reduce risks associated with these high levels.

This operation will immediately increase the water levels and flows between Lock 42 - Couchiching and the channel below the Severn River.

The public is advised to stay well clear of this area as high-water levels, fast-moving currents, and cold water are dangerous. Keep a safe distance and supervise children and pets at all times.
