Find a tree and create some art

Tree art!

What you will need:

  • Blank sheet of white paper or even fabric
  • Crayons
  • Masking tape

Instructions:

  1. Take your piece of paper or fabric, and tape it to the trunk of any tree
  2. Take your crayon (best to hold it sideways), and rub the crayon against the paper
  3. After doing this the pattern of the bark will be on your paper

If you want, you can use different colours, and you can also draw a picture on the paper beforehand and use the rubbing to colour it in!

Find out how water travels to a leaf

What you will need:

  • Water
  • Container for water
  • Leaf from a tree (stem attached)
  • Food colouring (red or blue)

Instructions:

  1. Put water in a cup/container and add a few drops of food colouring.
  2. Place the stem of the leaf in the water.
  3. Over several days, watch and record the results.

The colour from the water will spread to the leaf, demonstrating how water nourishes leaves.
