Lake Superior’s for the birds!

Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area

Turn your binoculars to Hurkett Cove, on the shores of the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area, at the height of spring migration and your life list will fill as quickly as you can write! Keen on bird watching? Hike the shores of Black Bay in the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area during spring migration. Black Bay acts as a natural funnel for thousands of birds of more than a hundred different species all heading north.

Start in the small community of Dorion and wander the trails of the Hurkett Cove Conservation Area to see wetlands alive with flocks of waterfowl, songbirds and other migrating birds. Listen to the cacophony of song as more than 20 species of warblers add their voices to the mix. Watch nesting peregrine falcons, bald eagles and white pelicans all fluttering in to add to the excitement.
